Define the asset hierarchy
Agree on sites, areas, production lines and maintainable assets before preparing the file. Give each asset a stable unique identifier; retain the original ERP identifier in a separate field when integrating systems. Avoid using a changing location as the only asset key.
Prepare and check the file
Include asset ID, name, parent ID, location, equipment type, manufacturer, model and criticality. Record serial numbers and commissioning dates only where reliable. Remove duplicate identifiers, confirm every parent exists and distinguish unknown values from zero. Download the import format supplied for your configured workspace rather than assuming generic column names will map automatically.
Pilot, reconcile and approve
Import a small representative batch first. Compare record counts, hierarchy, characters, units and required fields with the source. Keep the source export and a mapping log. Obtain planner approval before a full import and agree a rollback or correction method with your implementation contact.
Prepare a support request
Share the error message, import time and affected row numbers. Send a redacted sample through your agreed support channel; exclude credentials, personal information and confidential production data.
